New Catalyst Developed

The. Mitsui metal mining and smelting company has succeeded in developing a new low-cost catalyst to neutralise noxious elements in motor vehicle exhaust fumes, the Jiji press agency reports. The catalyst, a chemical mixture based on treated manganese dioxide, removes air pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, hydrocarbons and lead, from exhaust fumes. The report says the chemical, costing about 8U5320 a ton, requires replacement only once every 16,000 miles
