Advertising Signs
Sir, —In my letter which you printed in this morning’s paper you had cut out the part of the letter which detailed the banners in question, two of which were for a High Street sale. Had you left the letter as written the reply of the Deputy Mayor would have beet) shown to be off the mark At least one of the other banners was crudely and badly painted and no credit to anyone. 1 would be obliged if you would ask the Deputy Mayor to comment and to set out clearly whether a continuing rash of these ; ugly signs will be allowed.— I Yours, etc., R. H. HAMMOND. May 21, 1970.
[The Deputy Mayor (Mr H. P. Smith) replies: “Permission was given for banners in High Street on the occasion of a special effort by High Street retailers. This is not freely : given and nothing in the nature of a ‘rash’ may be expected.”]
