Macdonald Is Fit
"The Press’' Special Service CAMBRIDGE. Macdonald, the only Cambridge candidate for Awapuni, came through his final trial for the Manawatu Steeplechase soundly yesterday. He galloped a mile and a quarter, 25. feet out on the course proper, speeding up the last seven in Imin 36 4-ssec He missed Ellerslie racing because of a bruised hind leg but has fully recovered. Macdonald was due to travel south later yesterday. He will be ridden by L. .R. Norris. The Southland horses Radiant Light, Koral, Mosque, Ettrick, Ayrshire Dawn and Bill O’Groats. together with their trainer, W. J. Hillis, and stable jockey, R. B. Weaver, have left Cambridge for Hastings where they are freely entered for the two day meeting. All six horses have picked up well. The good jumper. Grey Count is also to race at Hastings with the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase on the first day his immediate mission.
He came through Ellerslie racing well, although the heavy going there did not suit him and his jumping was. not as good as usual. His trainer, P. R. Wilson, has not yet decided as to whether he will go south himself to ride Grey Count. This depends on the composition of his team for Tauranga next week.
