TRADING DECLINES BUT PRICES MAINTAIN FIRMER TONE
Trading activity declined on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, but rises and falls were in balance. Leaders also balanced, and the rises were generally more significant than the falls. This, together with the strong overseas list, imparted a firmer tone to the market.
N.Z. Forest Product? continued its strong upward path: the shares rose another 7c, to 425 c. Dominion Breweries sold 3c higher at 183 c. Wattie, Fletcher, U.E.8., Winstone; Feltex, Kaiapoi, and New Zealand Steel also found favour, although their rises were ' marginal. The falls likewise were small; N.Z.T.S. stood out, losing 5c to 170 c. C.S.R. led the overseas list, with a gain Of 70c to 820 c. Mount Isa, Hamersiey, Beach and B.H.P. also made good going.
