Boom Conditions Return To Australian Markets
Boom-type conditions returned to Australian stock exchanges yesterday, when the market advanced strongly in lively trading.
Mining shares set the pace, with numerous good rises and both the industrial and oil sectors of the market were firm.
On the mining boards Poseidon was prominent. The shares were well supported through the day and near the close broke the $lOO level to record a sale at $lOl before finishing at $99 for a net 900 c rise.
The heavy-weights were not neglected. Western Mining added 70c to 1150, while Mount Isa firmed 30c, C.R.A. 20c, and Peko 30c, Consolidated Gold was strong, jumping 60c to 810 and New Broken Hill improved 80c. Elsewhere among the miners rises outnumbered falls by a wide margin. The speculative nickels did well. Oils tended to improve. Industrials were generally firm, despite a fall by 8.H.P., which slipped 25c to 1280.
C.S.R. was unable to hold Wednesday’s big gain and fell 20c to 670.
