Athlete’s New Job
I (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LOS ANGELES. The Olympic decathlon champion, W. Toomey, has been named by President Nixon as head of the Peace Corps’ new sports programme, Associated Press reported. Toomey said he plans to travel to other countries to work for peace through sports. A 31-year-old school teacher, he will receive a salary from the Government and thus must retire from amateur track competition. Toomey set a world decathlon record of 8417 points last December.
Olympic Old.—The International Badminton Federation has applied to the International Olympic Committee to have badminton included in the Games.
