Sixteen Debutantes At St Mary’s Ball

Sixteen debutantes were presented to the Rt Rev. Monsignor G. V. Daly at the St Mary’s College Old Girls’ Association’s ball, held at the Winter Garden last evening. ,

Before the ball the debutantes, who were escorted by their fathers, visited their former school where they were each presented with a posy of blue and white flowers from the association. The debutantes were Misses Christine Woodham, Allannah Maher, Maree Johnston, Eileen Stokes, Jennifer Sandford, Phillipa Petre, Therese Slade, Rosemary Martin, Cecelia Mcßrearty, Sharon Stollery, Dianne Doherty, Christine Shea, Rina Limic, Allanah O’Sullivan, Helen and Lorraine Lake. They were trained by Mrs I. MacDonald. Official guests included: Sister Teresita, principal of the college; Sister Catherine, mother superior of St Mary’s Convent; Mother Louise, mother-general of the Sisters of Mercy of the Diocese of Christchurch; the Rev. Father D. Hickey, St Mary’s parish; the Rev. Father M. Durning, rector of St Bede’s College; the Rev. Father P. Crawford; the Rev, Brother B, Bosco,

principal of Xavier College; the Rev. Father R. Wilson; Mr and Mrs G. Shaw, representing St Mary’s Parish School; Mr and Mrs P. Rennell, representing St Mary’s College Parent-Teacher Association; Mr and Mrs I. MacDonald, Mr and Mrs A. M. Mills and Miss E. Cornyns Thomas. The following kindred associations were represented: Rangi Ruru Old Girls’ Association, St Margaret’s College Old Girls’ Association, Avonside Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association, Dominican College Past Pupils’ Association, Sacre Coeur Old Girls’ Association, Mercy College Past Pupils’ Association, Villa Maria Old Girls’ Association, Sacred Heart Past Pupils’ Association, St Bede’s College Old Boys’ Association, and Xavier College Old Boys’ Association. i The committee responsible for the ball arrangements was as follows: Sisters Teresita and Michael, Mesdames R.
