Operation On Dominate
“The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Dominate will not race again until spring or summer, according to his trainer, I. Bradbury. Dominate, which won his last hack start in impressive style at Trentham recently, is recovering from an operation to a leg. On his return from Trentham, Dominate was lame and veterinary surgeons at Massey University removed a chip of bone from one of his knees. Providing the recovery is normal, Dominate should be as good as ever again next season. Recently his owners had turned down offers of up to $14,000 for him. Change Of Mounts “The Press" Special Service WANGANUI. The Wanganui jockey, J. Waaka, originally engaged for Scalpal in next Monday s Wanganui steeplechase, has asked to be relieved of the mount. Instead he has elected to ride the 10-year-old Hi There, on which he finished fifth in the Masterton Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase at Opaki on Saturday.
The 1968 Wellington Steeplechase winner was having his first race over country since September, 1968. He ran close to the pace throughout but, not surprisingly, weakened to fifth in the last two furlongs. Scalpal, which is to attempt the Grandstand Hack Steeplechase and the Wanganui Steeplechase at the week-end is expected to be ridden by A. Skipper, according to his Marton trainer, J. R. Haworth.
