STORES AT U.S. BASES
Market For N.Z. Goods (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 25. Exporters of New Zealand meat and processed foods can now sell their goods to American PX stores —the supermarkets and department stores provided at the bases of United States armed forces. The Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) said today that the United States Defence Department had lifted purchasing restrictions at the end of March.
The opening of this market could be of considerable significance not only to New Zealand meat exporters but also to the processed food industry, he said. American families were accustomed to a wide variety of processed foods, and provided New Zealand foodstuffs of the right quality were available at attractive prices, the opportunities now open could lead to valuable additional exports, he said.
