ANOTHER BIG LOSS
Thomas Cup
Tourists
I N.Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) I BANGKOK. I Thailand defeated New Zealand, 5-0. in a badminton match yesterday, arranged as a prelude to New Zealand’s Thomas Cup quarter-final match against Indonesia. I Although New Zealand failed to win a match against the strong Thai side, all its players showed a definite im-' provement from their last encounter, against Singapore: at the week-end. when they : were outplayed. 6-0. It was obvious that the New Zealanders were at last settling down in the hot climate. The Thailand players were very fast round the .court and showed excellent control of the shuttle, especially at the net.
] The New Zealanders still made many needless errors but they lasted well and showed improved mobility about the court. Their best chance of success came in the top doubles,' in which the Purser brothers' were beaten in two close I games but had chances of winning both. They led 11-7 in the second; game but then made several 1 errors which allowed the Thais to catch up and go ahead to win. Results were: R. Purser lost to Bandid) Jaiyen, 8-15, 10-15; B. Purser) lost to Soon Chai, 4-15, 11-15; I M. Stossel lost to Sangob, 2-15, 13-15. j R. Purser and B. Purser lost 'to Narong and Chavaiert,' 12-15. 12-15: J. Compton and; )D. Higgins lost to Sila and; Ichirasakdi 5-15, 4-15.
Hole-in-one. —Using a 5-iron, Ifl-year-old N. Harris scored a hole-in-one at the Harewood club's seventeenth yesterday. It, was the second time in five months that Harris has achieved the feat at Harewood. '
