Pearson not finished yet
rpwo notable absentees x from the Otago men’s basketball team which played Canterbury in Dunedin recently were D. Sharp and L. Pearson, two men who have contributed a great deal to the sport both on the court and off. Sharp, a former New Zealand representative, has been the Otago playercoach in recent years. This season he has decided to restrict his representative commitments to coaching. Pearson has always proved a thorn in the side of Canterbury teams which have played against Otago in the last decade and it must have been quite a relief for the team which travelled to Dunedin to find him a spectator. However, Pearson has not yet retired.
He has predicted that he will be back in the team for the South Island regional tournament in Christchurch
on May 29, 30 and 31. Although not as fast as he once was, his experience in the team should prove valuable. He represented the South Island many times and was for a long period on the verge of selection for New Zealand teams. He was a brilliant individualist and it was probably because of this that he never wore the silver fern.
