NEW NAVY SHIP
Cities Grant Freedom I (N.Z PA. Staff Correspondent) GLASGOW, May 10. The freedom of the cities of Christchurch and Timaru will be given to H.M.N.Z.S. Canterbury the new antisubmarine frigate which was launched in Glasgow last week by Princess Anne. A message received in Glasgow from the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr A. R. Guthrey) said the freedom of the city would be extended to the' crew of the ship during its maiden voyage. Tiraaru’s greetings were passed on personally by the member of Parliament for Timaru (Sir Basil Arthur) who, together with three other i New Zealand members of 'Parliament, broke a tour of [Scandinavia to be present at i the launching. Sir Basil Arthur said Timaru city councillors had been pleased at a recent meeting to extend the freedom of their city to the ship.
