The United Nations Association of New Zealand has asked the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and the United Nations Committee on Colonialism to study conditions in the French territories of French Polynesia and New Caledonia. The association said in a statement that the United Nations Committee on Colonialism had apparently overlooked these French territories while it had examined Pacific territories governed by other countries.

France claimed these territories were part of France, the association said. Portugal had made similar claims for' its territories and these were being examined. The French authorities had. opposed or suppressed movements for independence, and would resume nuclear tests near Tahiti next month without the consent of the Polynesians, the association said.
