In a floral setting devised by the members of the Canterbury Horticultural Society, fashions for dawn till dusk and on into the evening will be modelled. The garments will be provided by J. Ballantyne and Company, Ltd. The society has a special (interest in helping with the fund for the furnishings in ,the aged persons’ home, because Sir George Manning is 'its patron.
This is its first charity function, and the. money raised will be presented to the Manchester Unity Welfare Homes Trust Board to help equip the planned 40-bed residential home in Lyttelton Street. The models will make their
Society members from North Canterbury to Ellesmere will produce 30 spectacular. pedestal floral designs to decorate the two halls and the foyer. The stage will be transformed into a house, with its garden setting of trees and shrubs descending to the catwalk. A glasshouse, complete with pot plants, will be set up, and a well known horticultural personality will be at work on the set during the evening. Before the after-five wear is modelled there will be an interval, when Mrs J. N. Okey, organiser of the society's recently formed Ikebana group, will present a display of the Japanese floral art. New Zealand wines and cheese will be served in the supper room, which members plan to decorate in the colours of the wines and grapes.
