Small Movements In Firm Market
RISES
The New Zealand sharemarket was firm yesterday, with more than twice as many rises as falls. Trading was active, without quite reaching the high turnover of Wednesday. Movements again were mostly small.
Leaders were inactive but steady, with movements only marginal. Most of the action was by second-line stocks, as had been the case earlier in the week.
The best gain was made by the Auckland retailer Milne and Choyce, which rose 10c to 75c.
Scott Group and New Zealand Industrial Gases, both
rather infrequently traded, also rose 10c each. Reidrubber continues to oscillate; the shares yesterday rose Bc, almost reaching 500 c again. Feltex continued to drift, the shares losing 2c and the
rights 4c. Ivon Watkins Dow new shares recorded the largest loss: 6c to 167 c. New Zealand Minings and oils were firm. Consolidated Silver, much in the news this week because of present production and
future plans, led this market section with 4c and 3c rises.
The overseas list was firm. Bank of New South Wales and Mount Isa showed good gains, and B.H.P. recovered 10c.
Colonial Sugar went against gains, and B.H.P. recovered the trend, and lost 35c to 800 c.
