Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Cooking vegetables yesterday were cheaper than they were on Monday at the Christchurch produce markets. Carrots were 30c cheaper, selling at up to 70c a case: and onions were 20c less, selling at up to $3.20 a sugar bag. Most salad vegetables were dearer. Lettuces cost up to $3.30 a case, an increase of $2.10. Nectarines fetched up to $2.50 a case, 70c less. i The official price range supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Associtaion was: Marrows. —30c to 40c a case. Silver Beet.—to 60c a case. Beetroot. —To 30c a case. Pumpkins.—To $1.30 a sack. Cabbages.—3oc to 40c a case. Carrots—soc to 70c case. Cauliflowes.—sl to $1.90 case. . Onions.—To $3.20 a sugar bag. Parsnips.—4oc to 50c a case. Sprouts.—s2.so to $3.15 a case. Swedes.—sl.2o a bag. Potatoes.—7oc to $1.20 a sugar bag. Kumaras.—To $5.50 a case. Spring Onions. —70c a dozen bunches. Radishes. —70c a dozen bunches. Lettuces.—4oc to $3.30 a case. Leeks. —To 80c a case. Utah Celery.—sl.2o a case. Stringless Beans. —$1.50 to $l.BO a case. Spinach.—To 70c a case. Cucumbers.—To $1.50 a case. Sweet Corn.—To 55c a tray. Tomatoes. —7c to 42c\ per lb. Peaches.—sl.7o to $2.05 a case. Nectarines—To $2.50 a case. Grapes.—4Bc to 62c per lb.
