HANMER POOLS

Support By Mr McKay

(From Our Own Reporter)

WELLINGTON, April 16.

The Minister of Health (Mr McKay) is prepared to give his support (and to provide mineral waters) to any outside organisation wishing to establish thermal pools at Hannier, he said today in reply to a written question by Mr I. J. Brooks (Lab., Marlborough). Mr Brooks had asked whether, referring to a report in “The Press” of a meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board setting out its support for a Government grant for the Hanmer pools, he would encourage the Minister of Tourism (Mr Walker) to make such a grant “because of the desirable assistance it will give in obtaining and retaining staff for the Queen Mary Hospital.

He was aware that the board had approached Mr Walker, said Mr McKay. “I am sure that my colleague will give careful consideration to this request, and will take into account staff considerations in reaching; a decision."
