COTTESMORE DEBUTANTES
More than 300 guests watched the presentation of 18 debutantes at the Cottesmore College debutante ball held at the Horticultural Hall on Saturday evening.
The girls were escorted by their fathers and were presented to the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby) by the president of the Sacre Coeur Old Girls’ Association (Mrs M. G. L. Lough nan). The school colours of red and white were used in the floral decorations and the debutantes carried red and white posies, a gift from the association. The debutantes were: Misses Rosalie Keane, Susan O’Brien, Gillian Voysey, Karen Greenslade, Mary McCormick, Patricia Curnow, Karen Commons, Sandra
Muir, Denise Rassie, Geralddine Smith, Susan Henderson, Mary Anne Graham, Pamela Quinn, Margaret Coleman, Elizabeth Gallington, Alexandra Ball, Rosemary Willcox, and Mary Pat Cross. Among the specially invited guests were Fathers T. C. Curnow, M. O’Malley and J. Considine. Kindred associations were represented by Mr and Mrs P. Keenan (St Mary’s), Mr and Mrs D. McCaul (St Margaret’s), Mr and Mrs J. Kitson (Rangi-Ruru), Mr and Mrs B. Clark (Sacred Heart), and Mr and Mrs M. Bridgeman (Villa Maria). The debutantes were trained by Mr and Mrs W. Wilson. The ball was convened by Mrs J. Kearney, assisted by Mesdames P. Cross, C. Kennedy, L. Stone, and Messrs K. Curnow and H. Connor.
