KAIKOURA H.S.
Request To Minister The Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys) is to be asked to approve the establishment of a Forms I to VI high school at Kaikoura as from February 1, 1971. i The contributing schools will be those at Mangamaunu, Hapuku, Kaikoura Primary, Kaikoura Suburban, Oaro, and Lynton Downs. The Canterbury Education Board's building committee adopted a report from the ' board chairman (Mr A. S. Murray) on a meeting of householders of the schools in and around held at Kaikoura on March' 4. Mr Murray, in his report jto the board; which met i yesterday, said that because of the restricted site on ■ which the district high school : was built, it would be a ; recommendation to the i Minister that a new primary I school be built at Kaikoura on a suitable site yet to be ! acquired. It was made clear that the new primary school could not ■ possibly be completed before the end of 1971 and that this would mean the two schools would have to co-exist on the same site during the year. Such inconvenience would have to be accepted by those concerned if earlier translation was desired, said Mr Murray. The new Forms I to VI high school will have an I estimated commencing roll of 240.
