Inter-Club Tennis Completed

In spite of the loss of Saturday’s play through rain, the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s competitions were completed at the week-end. . The only play was in the first mixed A grade yesterday when Fendalton beat Avonside by 9 matches to 7 in a play-off on the hard courts instead of the grass at Wilding Park. Competition points were: Avonside 148, Fendalton 143, Elmwood 113. Barrington 100, Edgeware 94, Cashmere 88, Spreydon 51, Shirley 31. The Fendalton team was W. J. Smith, J. Beddis.’P. Dewsbury, E. Simpson, Miss R. Smith, Mrs J. Drury, Mrs L. BUxton, Miss J. Calder. When Saturdays play was lost, the supplementary senior women’s competition was abandoned with only one of the three rounds played. The competition proper had been completed earlier with Avonside the winner. The first mixed B grade, which was to have been played on Saturday and again yesterday, was declared completed by the competitions committee, with Woolston the winner. The points were:—Woolston 162 Burwood Park and Linwood Avenue 147, Beckenham 138, North Linwood 99, Avonside 74, Waimairi 67, Fendalton 62, United 44, St Martins 20.
