FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A very deep depression is centred near the Chatham Islands; a ridge of high pressure lies over the eastern Tasman Sea. Forecast: Central Marlborough and Nelson. —Light or moderate variable winds; fine and becoming mild. Coastal Marlborough and Canterbury.— South to south-west winds fresh in exposed coastal places; variable skies and probably a few isolated brief showers; light variable winds in most places and mainly fine; cool on the coast, becoming mild inland.
