Athletics Boycott
Sir, —All credit should go to the Kenyans in their recent stand for multi-racial sport. Contrary to being “political blackmail” as stated by your correspondent, “The Walrus,” their action was a very reasonable attempt to restore multi-racial sport.—Yours, L. J. McLEOD. March 21, 1970. Sir, —The Kenyan athletes should not be allowed to dictate their own terms for participating in any of our sport- <•
ing events, and if they are not prepared to accept the rules they should be barred from competing. These tactics may be tolerated elsewhere, particularly in the United Kingdom who, as slaves of the United Nations, has no choice in the matter, but this is New Zealand and the Kenyans and their supporters must be reminded of this fact.—Yours, etc., L.G.W. March 20, 1970.
