BOMBING IN LAOS

The United States Secretary of Defence (Mr Melvin Laird) said yesterday that he would urge continued United States bombing of North Vietnamese infiltration routes through Laos even if a Communist regime seized control of that south-east Asian country. the Associated Press reported. In an unannounced appearance before reporters at a Pentagon briefing. Mr Laird said that the military situa- | lion in Laos “is not a good [military situation.” ! But he said he would not I forecast whether North Vietinamese forces might attempt to take over the Laotian Government.
United States bombing of Communist supply routes through Laos and into South Vietnam had been conducted with the permission of the present Government in Vientiane.
