The scratching of Far Time, however disappointing, has done little to dim interest in the Stars Travel Invitation Stakes on the first day of the Bay of Plenty Racing Club's autumn meeting today. The champion stayer, Il Tempo, Game, from Hastings, and the Matangi four-year-old, Bardall, continue to dominate ' discussions on the Invitation , Stakes, which, with a stake!! of $15,000, is the richest j weight-forage race in New;, Zealand. , Easier footing than for art time has greatly enhanced]! the prospects of Bardall.;! group round the first turn. If the pacemakers go very fast—and all the indications are that the speed will be on all the way—ll Tempo will very likely be allowed to drop away in the first half-mile. But the same hot pace, if it keeps up. will be a big help to his chance of winning. A start-and-go affair would give the quicker horses a considerable advantage. Great Record From his last five attempts Il Tempo has won three times over two miles and once, at weight-for-age over a mile and a half, a run of form entirely without precedent. Game beat all except Far Time last time out, in the Waikato Racing Club’s Invitation Stakes on February 17. Bardall has been out of form in his last two races only because of very hard tracks."
