Aku-Hoa Likely At Otaki

"The Press” Special Service

WELLINGTON. The Woodville apprentice, D. Harris, who has boon having a lean time In doubles races lately, might gain his first first-leg victory for some time on Aku-Hoa In the Ta Timl Kara Handicap at Otaki today. Harris's last doubles success came at Wanganui in December when he brought home Anne Frank at odds of better than 170 to 1.

This will only be his second mount on Aku-Hoa, the first being at Trentham last Saturday when the gelding failed to match his far more experienced counterparts in his open class debut.

Aku-Hoa appears better suited by firmer going and unless there are heavy showers today the track should be no worse than easy. No definite decision will be made about a start for Royal Escort till this morning. If he does run he should carry on the form that won for him the Earle Handicap at Wanganui in January. Point Duty, a previous winner on the course, might make things interesting on the strength of his bold high-weight placing at Trentham. Cantostan should be rewarded with a deserved win in the second leg, the Taipua Handicap. Since running fourth in a sprint at Awapuni last month he has improved with each race. Hagen's Gold and Bourbon Lass make most appeal of the others.
