Objection To TV Comment
Concern at the comment ■ that the Christchurch City Council reception for the Queen and members of the Royal family was stuffy and . over-formal was expressed in i a statement from the presi- ' dent of the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers’ Association (Mr J. A. Hendry) : on Thursday evening. Mr Hendry said that the atmosphere was one> of ; relaxed informality, achieved ■ in no small degree by the ; excellent planning of the : council’s Royal tour officers. Because of this, guests were able to meet and chat with [at least one of the Royal family. He said that, at the recent . annual meeting, the associa- , tion directed him to express • its concern at the comment, I which was made on the tele- ' vision coverage of the event. ■ The meeting decided this i after Mr Hendry related his ' experiences as the associa- ‘ tion’s representative at the : reception. “Several members who attended in other capacities strongly supported this directive, adding their personal praise of the [ arrangements,” said Mr Hendry. ij
