Thrust In Laos
(N.Z Press Assn —Copyright) VIENTIANE (Laos), Mar. 19. North Vietnamese troops today fired rockets at the headquarters of General Vang Pao in the second day of their new thrust south-west of the Plain of Jars, Laotian military sources said, the Associated Press reported.
Sources said that about four rockets slammed into Long Cheng, 80 miles north of Vientiane, and burned several houses. There were no reports on casualties. As many as 18,000 civilians had been moved from the Long Cheng area before the rocket attack because of the North Vietnamese build-up, the sources said. At the same time, North Vietnamese troops attacked a forward position of General Vang Pao's Meo guerrilla army five miles north of Long Cheng. Government forces at Long Cheng and at Sam Thong, 10 miles north-north-west, were reinforced. There were no reports of new fighting at the big American support base and refugee centre at Sam Thong, captured yesterday by the North Vietnamese.
