Miners Weak Again In Dull Australian Trading

Share prices showed losses across the board when trading ended in Sydney yesterday. Trading was erratic, however, and some issues closed off the bottom. In Melbourne mining shares tended to fall away after a reasonably firm opening.

Poseidon was hard hit fall-i ing more than 2000 c to $163. I a low for the year before] i buyers appeared to take the price back to $172 in Sydney and $l7O in Melbourne. Samin fell 200 c to 2100 c. while North Flinders and Australian Development both lost ground. Laverton continued to attract support closing strongly in Sydney at 465 c for a gain of 65c after early pro-fit-taking had been absorbed. Westralian Nickel put on 50c to 810 c and Carr Boyd added 10c at 700 c.

Among established miners, C.R.A. fell 100 c to 2100 c in Sydney, although Hamersley put on 40c at 880 c. Great Boulder fell 20c to 510 c and Mount Lyell was 10c down at 280 c. Mineral Securities put on 10c at 1550 c.

The Pykes Hill partners. Mid East and Westralian Sands, were out of favour, and Pacific Copper fell 30c to close at 290 c. Tasminex and Eastmet both shed 10c. In the oils, Beach fell sharply under selling pressure, closing 40c lower at 260 c and Bounty came back 2c to 11c.
