Three Farms Offered

A 150-acre farm at Southbridge was sold for $61,500 at auction on Wednesday, one of 205 acres at Springston was part-sold for $18,400, and a 344-acre farm at Darfield was passed in at $63,640. The Southbridge property has a six-roomed weatherboard bungalow and outbuildings. Bidding opened at $350 an acre and rose in $lO bids to the selling price of $4lO an acre. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Assn, Ltd, sold the farm on account of the trustees of the estate of Mr S. J. Graham. The auctioneer was Mr G. May. The property at Springton has a two-storey, five-roomed house, a manager’s cottage and outbuildings. The whole block was offered first at auction and bidding started at $340 an acre. When the price reached $4OO an acre the property was passed in. Lot 1, of 158 acres, was then offered but was passed in at $420 an acre. Lot 2, of 46 acres, was sold for $4OO an acre after bidding had opened at $3OO an acre. Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd, were the auctioneers on behalf of the estate of the late Mr H. Hamilton.

A property of 344 acres freehold and 14 acres railway lease at Darfield, was offered on account of Mr J. H. Bullock. It was passed in at $lB5 an acre after bidding had opened at $l5O an acre. The homestead block, of 274 acres, with a five-roomed bungalow and outbuildings was offered with the 14 acres of railway lease land but was passed in at $l9O an acre. The auctioneers were Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd. Museum Addition Among additions to the Canterbury Museum's collections is a model of a Tongan meeting house. The model was first displayed in the Tongan Court at the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition in Wellington in 1940. The model was presented to the Museum by Miss P. Denniff who obtained it from the maker after the exhibition.
