NEW NELSON WHARF

Opening By Minister

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, March 19. Nelson, once a minor provincial port, was now a major terminal in New Zealand’s transport system, the Minister of Marine (Mr McCready) said today when opening the new $430,000 Kingsford Quay here.

“Nelson has made this advance through its unique wharflngering system, its highly mechanised cargohandling, its record gangoutput and its minimum weather delays,”, said the Minister.

The new wharf is 845 ft long, with a coastal berth and an overseas berth. It increases the port’s capacity for overseas ships from three to four.
