Youth And Drugs
The number of young people arrested in Victoria for taking drugs had increased more than twentyfold in the last five years, the C. 1.8. drug bureau chief, Detective Sergeant R. KytePowell, said today. He told the Senate Select Committee into Drug Trafficking and Abuse that only five offenders were aged under 25 in a total of 60 drug-takers in Victoria in 1965. Last year there were 105 persons under 25 out of a total of 218 arrested. About 100 persons a year died in Victoria from barbiturate poisoning.—Melbourne, March 20. 'I .
