Secretaries’ Officers

Mr H. M. Speakman, of Auckland, was elected president of the New Zealand division of the Chartered Institue of Secretaries at the division’s annual meeting in Christchurch yesterday. Mr R. R. Brown (Wellington) was elected senior vicepresident, and Mr P. J. Scott (Invercargill) junior vicepresident. Mr J. D. Rose (Auckland) was elected treasurer.

There was only one nomination for each office

Until yesterday evening, all former presidents of the New Zealand division were members of the division’s executive council. At a special meeting immediately before the annual meeting the rule was altered so that former presidents remain on the council for only three years. This action—referred to by one member of the council as a “suicide pact”—reduced the membership of the council by 14. It now comprises Messrs H. E. Read (Christchurch, immediate past president), J. M. Andrew (Wellington), A. H. Braby (Wellington), A. D. Fergusson (Whangarei), D. A. Hogan (Dunedin), J. G. Mason (Auckland), D. L. Perry (Auckland), and P. F. Polson (Christchurch).
