Four-Day Sales
Four-day sales will be held for three weeks at Addington market next month.
This arrangement has been made by the Stock and Station Agents’ Association, with the Saleyards Company, to cope with the increased entries of store calves.
As from Monday, April 13, prime stock will be sold on Mondays, calves from north of the Hurunui on Tuesdays, store sheep and adult store cattle on Wednesdays, and calves from south of the Hurunui on Thursdays. From the beginning of May, the sales will revert to two-day fixtures until the end of the autumn.
A growing beef cattle population is the principal factor in the decision to increase the number of selling days. On one or two occasions last season the capacity of the cattle section to hold store calves was extended to the limit. By introducing two selling days for calves each week, the selling agents consider that vendors’ annual consignments will be displayed better, and it will also lead to less restricted conditions for buyers.
Even with two calfselling days a week for three weeks in April, agents still expect there will be some large yardings.
