Mr J. Y. Scales a Canterbury owner who at times raced on an extensive scale, died after » lengthy jllness yesterday His best winner was the Jekyll mare, Double, which won •11 races and earned $10,090 Master Dalmam, a minor place-getter in the 1962 New [Zealand St Leger. won bv Cracksman, was shaping a$ if he would develop good form as a handicap horse the next season until he broke a leg in a race at Rangiora. More recently Mr Scales had his horses trained at Riccarton by R P. Register. There were ino top performers in the team. !but Sir Limond was useful.
