TROTTING Chance For Manaroa At Addington Tomorrow

The meeting between three fine stayers, Manaroa, Intrepid and Chequer Board, in the third qualifying heat of the Easter Cup will be one of the highlights of a top-class programme on the second night of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow'.

The win of Intrepid and the placing of Chequer Board on Wednesday assures them of a place in the SlO.OOO final tomorrow week, but Manaroa will have to finish in the first three to earn a start. Manaroa's run to finish ninth on the first night was a feature of the meeting. He actually began splendidly, but went to a bad tangle after about 70 yards. He was tailed right off with seven furlongs left, but unwound an amazing run to pass five of his rivals in the run home. The extra distance will help him and if he only drifts a few lengths without breaking at the start, he should gain his fifth win for the season. Intrepid will make Mana-

roa work hard for a win even if the Mount Hutt pacer begins well. Intrepid gained a dashing win in his sprint heat on Tuesday, in his first start since his New Brighton Cup win of January 28. He; is expected to be an improved horse as a result of that race and even from 12 yards his! chances must be highly rated Chequer Board, too, is certain to improve as the result; of his first-night race when; he made up much ground after a slow- start for third to Leading Light and Port Boxer. Chequer Board is a dour stayer with brilliance sufficient to enable him to make up his handicap of 36 yards without too much effort. Port Boxer and Jacquinot 1 Bay both recorded sound placings on the first night and they must again be given a 1 chance, while the fourth plac- , ing of Radiant Globe was most encouraging and good enough r to give him a chance of being

placed. Stylos is a useful stayer and she. too. should be prominent, while James might be a danger. He received a shocking run in his sprint heat and w’as not disgraced w’hen he finished seventh. He has a splendid record and might upset calculations. Final Heat Leading Light Stella Frost and Pun are the only horses! with points from the first; night engaged in the final i heat. Leading Light started from 12 yards when he won his heat, the same mark from which Stella Frost came with a stayer's run for second to Intrepid This time Stella Frost will start from 18 yards, with Leading Light on his own from 36 yards. Handicaps suggest that Stella Frost might come out on top this time. She has obviously recovered fullyi from her exertions in Mel-j bourne, and she looks readv to return to her top New Zealand form, which would give her a win. Leading Light, too. must again be considered. He won with plenty in hand on Wednesday and his extra handicap should not prove to be prohibitive. He should go close to winning again. True Averil was unlucky to be checked badly at the start on Wednesday. He did not recover from the knock and finished well back. The Fallacy entire looked a picture and he should be harder to beat in this race. Pun's good run for fourth! after forcing the pace was a sound effort for a horse in his class and he should again go l well, while Co Pilot, Our! Smokey and Bramble Hall] may also be prominent. Fair weather is forecast and the track will again be fast. The on-course concession; double will be run on the | Electric Stakes and the Reta Peter Handicap. The jackpot, w’ith a fresh;; pool, will be run on races : two. four. five, six and seven, h i' NEW ZEALAND METROPOLITAN 1 TROTTING CLUB WITHDRAWALS for all events on! the Final Day of the above 1 Club's Easter Meeting to be held 1 on March 28. must be received 1 by 3 P.M.. on MONDAY NEXT. 1 !
