President This Year
This year’s president of the Hawarden Agricultural and Pastoral Association is Mr J. D. Sidey, who is on the Strathblane property. He is a fourth-generation president of this association. Mr Sidey's great-grand-father, Mr James Little, was the inaugural president of
the association in 1907. Since then, Mr Sidey’s grandfather and father have held the office.
In 1968, Mr J. D. Sidey brought the 475-acre homestead portion of the original 1200-acre Dalmeny Park, which was earlier owned by his grandfather, Mr James Little, who died in 1921.
Mr Little established the Corriedale breed in North Otago in the 1880 s, spending the late years of his life farming Dalmeny Park. Mr Sidey has been a committee member of the association for 12 years; he was vice-president last year. Strathblane carries mainly Corriedale stud: about 70 acres are grown in wheat. Mr Sidey is a member of the New Zealand Corriedale Council, and a keen supporter of local affairs.
