CHANGING TO LEAGUE
The former West Coast Rugby union three-quarter and Canterbury junior sprint champion, W. A. R. James, will play for the Marist-West-ern Suburbs Rugby League Club in Christchurch this sea son. James, 28, played in 14 matches for West Coast between 1960 and 1965, representing the combined West Coast- Buller XV against South Africa in 1965. He previously played Rugby union in Christchurch for Marist and Albion and was a Town colts representative. He played one game of Rugby
league for Linwood in 1961, | scoring three tries. In 1960, James beat D. W[ , Mackenzie and A. G. Steel to; win the Canterbury junior l
100-yard title in lO.lsec, equalling the provincial record set by B. M. Thwaites 10 years earlier. Mackenzie and Steei later equalled the time and it was not beaten until D. Berry clipped O.lsec off it in 1968. James also won the Canterbury junior long jump title in 1959 and 1960 and briefly held the 220-yard record of 22.45ec until Steel beat him in 22.35ec in the Canterbury junior final in 1960 when Mackenzie ran third. James represented Canterbury at national junior and senior alhlletics championships and [played for West Coast at cric- < ket.
