ROADSIDE STALLS
Regulations Adopted
Regulations governing the siting and use of roadside stalls were adopted by the Waimairi County Council at its meeting last evening. The regulations included provisions that produce sold must be grown on the farm conducting the selling, that where possible stalls should be in an existing building, that the vending point should be at least 100 feet from the road frontage with the vending facilities screened unless they were 200 ft from the road, that there should be parking for six cars and a turning area, and that the advertising should be confined to one signboard.
The regulations also stipulated that the stall or shop’s retail floor area should not be more than 150 square feet, and that the stall should be operated and registered in accordance with the Food Hygiene Regulations. The town planning committee recommended the adoption and approval of the regulations as basic requirements for conditional-use applications for roadside stalls.
Cr A. A. Adcock said he was not happy about the proposed restrictions which, he said, could tie up the small man in more restrictions.
