(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. i Inside the furlong in the Henlley Handicap at Dunedin on Saturday. Maree Dee (L. G. Didham), when trying to improve • ( on the inside of Royal Mount <M. T. Kennedy) and Pole Star HE. J. Didham). fell and dislodged her rider. i An inquiry was opened, but as L. G. Didham was sent to hospital for observation, it was adjourned until a statement icould be taken from him. ' The veterinary report on 1 Maree Dee said that the filly jwas dead at the time of examination. She had died instantly] ifrom brain damage. Didham. after X-rays, returned home. ! The start of the Allanton Hack 'and Hunters’ Hurdles was delayed several minutes when A. il. Robb, the rider of Golden I Silver, broke part of his gear '.after doing his preliminary and !had to return to the birdcage iand be reweighed. Robb was charged with uiing faulty gear, and was fined 815. After the race. W. Sutherland, the rider of Free Frenchman, which finished third. was charged with failing to ride his mount out over the concluding 'stages. After hearing evidence • from the stipendiary steward, viewing a film of that part of -the race and hearing a statement from Sutherland, the committee upheld the charge and fined Sutherland $4O. Free Frenchman was beaten by a long head for second.
