NELSON DROUGHT BREAKS
(N.Z. Press Association' NELSON. March 1. Torrential rain on Friday night and yesterday morning in the Nelson district ended nearly two months of drought. At Nelson airport 1.18 inches of rain was recorded from 5.45 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. yesterday, raising the rainfall for February to 1.21 inches and for the year to 1.78 inches. Before FHday, there had been 211 rainless days in Nelson and 71 days since the last significant fall, on December 17-18. The Reefton headquarters of the Forest Service recorded 1.59 inches of rain in the 24 hours to 9 a.m. yesterday. At the Rai Valley there was 1.19 inches and at Golden Downs .64 of an inch.
