Busy Week-end At Girls’ Brigade Camp

A camp to introduce new recruits to the activities of the Girls’ Brigade was held during the week-end at the Blue Skies Camp, Kaiapoi. I The camp, run by the Fifth District of the Canterbury 1 and West Coast region, was attended by 109 girls aged 101 to 16 years, and 18 officers, including 15 guest members! from Greymouth. The district commissioner (Mrs J. Alley) said yesterday [that the camp was a part of '“Operation Spearhead,” a recruiting programme for 1970. Apart from heavy rain yesterday morning which had stopped the camp swimming carnival, the programme had gone very well and had been greatly enjoyed by the girls and their leaders. A highlight of the week-end activities had been a square dancing session on Saturday evening. Mr R. Gardner and i his dancing team from Rangilora attending to demonstrate and teach the girls. Other activities included films on water safety, bush walks and group games.

Economiser.—Next time you run out of hand or body cream—buy a large bottle of baby lotion instead of your usual brand of cream. It is just as effective and cheaper.

Guest speakers had included Miss E. Sprott, of Air New Zealand, who had addressed the girls on travelling, and Mr B. A. Caygill, from the Christchurch Children’s Theatre, who gave a talk on drama and taught the girls simple miming techniques. .
