UNIVERSITY POSTS
Americans To Teach Two Americans, sponsored by the United States Educational Foundation in New {Zealand, will join the teaching staff of the University of Canterbury this year and a third will undertake research in the Entomology' Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in Nelson. Dr P. J. Coleman, associate professor of history at the University of Illinois and a former New Zealander, will be in New Zealand from : mid-June to early September. He will work with the American studies group and the ■ department of history at the University of Canterbury and' will also visit all the other New Zealand universities. Dr R. L. Kruse, of New Mexico, will take up a readership in mathematics at the {university. Dr Kruse, a specialist in computer programming, will be engaged in this field during his stay in {Christchurch. { Dr S. C. Hoyt, of the Washington State University tree j fruit research centre, will ■ arrive towards the end of I August. Dr Hoyt has done outstanding research on tree fruit pests for some time, with special reference to the control of mites in orchards.! This is an area in which the {Entomology Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has an. active programme and, as: {Lincoln College is also interested in this project, it is expected that Dr Hoyt will (spend some time there. j
