Show’s New Interests

New interests this year in the Kaikoura Agricultural and Pastoral Association show to be held tomorrow include the Show Queen competition run in co-operation with the Country Girls’ Club. - ■

This year the show will have two registered beef bull classes, open to all breeds and judged by a commercial breeder. The beef-breed-ing industry in Kaikoura has developed Considerably over recent years. Light horse and pony jumping sections have very good entries from as far south as Christchurch and

north to Nelson. These exhibitors put much preparation in before the show and their rewards are large classes of well-prepared and well-mannered horses taking part in the show ring events. Much credit must go to the pony club movement for the way these young riders and their mounts turn out. Another attraction this year will be the exhibition of two pony stallions. These entries are of great interest as it is expected that they

will leave many ponies of quality in the district. They are the pure-bred Welsh mountain pony Kurekeka Mars belonging to Mrs T. A. Blunt, Steepdown, Kaikoura, and the Timor pony stallion Wee Mascot belonging to Mr J. Foster, Clarence Bridge. Two other new exhibitors are the newly formed Kaikoura- Spinning Group and the Kaikoura Historical Society, both of which will create wide interest . - Wool classes, vegetables, fruit, cqoking, photography, art, home produce, are always of a high standard and well supported. Careful work and imaginative art aye to be seen in the school Children’s section, with entries coming from nine schools. Entries Compared Apart from the fruit and flower sections the entries this year,’ compared with 1969, are: -
