Anhydrous Ammonia Unit
A unit for injection of anhydrous ammonia into the soil has been loaned to Lincoln College by P. and D. Duncan, Ltd. The unit was demonstrated by Mr M. Thomas, a degree student at the college, during a field afternoon held in the vegetable research area at the college last week. Instrumentation and hos-
ing for the unit had been brought to Christchurch from Australia, Mr P. Murray, sales manager for Duncans, said. Mr Thomas said that the anhydrous ammonia he was using in experiments at the college cost 37c per lb, but in Australia it now cost 10c and it would go down further yet. Containing 82 per cent
nitrogen, he said, it was the most concentrated form of nitrogen fertiliser. If all the ; gear for its use was avail* able it would represent a considerable saving, but if it did come into use in New Zealand it . would be a contractor operation initially. In the accompanying photograph Mr Murray, on the left, and Mr Thomas are shown with the unit
