TROTTING La Guardia And Swift Action Timaru Picks

Two promising four-year-olds, La Guardia and Swift Action, form a likely combination for the T.A.B. concession double at the Timaru Trotting Club’s autumn meeting tomorrow at Washdyke.

La Guardia will be having his first start since he was successful at Rangiora on December 20. He showed that he was close to his best with a bold showing at the Methven trials on Tuesday.

La Guardia is one of the speediest pacers in his elass and although he will be meeting a capacity field of 17 rivals, he should be too good for them. Croydon Avenue will be having his first start since joining R. W. Stockdale’s Yaldhurst team a few weeks ago. If he is sufficiently forward, he might make La Guardia work hard to continue his winning sequence. Two starts ago Sheer Delight was a decisive winner over two miles in 4mln 20 2.5sec at Forbury Park on February 4. She did not receive a good run when eighth over 13 furlongs from a flying start 10 days later at Addington Raceway and should be much harder to beat in this field.

Sirrah Jay and Young Danny, which raced at Hutt Park on Wednesday, El Caballos, and' Kran appeal most of thej others on the limit, while Barrhill and Thunder Globe should do best of the horses! on 24 yards. Swift Action will have to improve very little on his second over two miles behind Robin Rose a fortnight ago at Addington to come out on top over the same distance in

ithe Wai-iti Handicap. Swift Action forced all of the pace in that race and it was only inside the last half-furlong that he was mastered. He looks one of the best prospects in an open race. Monarrg and Promise should run out the two miles better than most of the others, but bold showings are expected from Waiata, Seafleld Queen. True Forbes, and Peel Off. .. The on-course concession double will be run on the Salisbury Handicap and the Timaru Nursery Stakes. The jackpot, with a pool starting at $llBO, will be run on races three to seven inclusive.
