Three More Records
Three Canterbury swimming records, one of them shared after a dead-heat, were set during the association’s time trials last evening. This raises the number of provincial records broken this season to 124. Tony Atkinson and Jim Carter dead-heated in the under-13 boys’ 200 metres freestyle in a time of 2min 22.25ec, 2.3 sec inside Atkinson’s Canterbury mark. The other records were set by G. S. Walker (men’s 100 metres freestyle) and Eddie Box (under-11 boys’ 100 metres freestyle), who improved their own Canterbury times. Walker returned 57.4 sec, compared with his previous best of 57.8 sec, and Box clipped I.3sec off his time of Imih 16.7 sec.
