Prince To Consider Manapouri Pleas
1V.Z.P.4. Staff Correspondent) LONDON. Feb. 13. Prince Philip is expected to study pleas for me preservation of Lake Mana- , pouri when he visits New Zealand next month. The press office at Buckingham Palace confirmed yesterday that he had received “three or four" letters from New Zealand. ■ mostly from individuals, seeking his support. The office said that as head of several conservation bodies. Prince Philip received many similar appeals and it was his practice to study the facts carefully before committing himself to definite action.
In this case, the office said, it was unlikely that he would seek action directly from the New Zealand Government. but more likely he would consult conservation bodies with whom he lias association. British conservation officials said their Royal sponsor regularly spoke out against the despoliation of natural beauty by industries and puhlir bodies in general, hut was reluctant to criticise in public any specific act against nature. If he wished to take action in specific eases he was more likely to urge conservation bodies—perhaps by letter or personal approach —to take certain actions.
