A NEW OPERETTA, MUSICAL PLAY OR LIGHT OPERA WITH A NEW ZEALAND THEME & SETTING To mark its 10th Anniversary in 1970 The NEW ZEALAND FEDERATION OF OPERATIC SOCIETIES INC invites individuals or groups of people to write and compose any one of the above-mentioned types of work which must' be suitable for full scale presentation by Amateur Operatic Societies in New Zealand. Each entry must comprise: (1) The libretto. (2) Full vocal parts for principals and chorus. (3) A piano score. THE SUCCESSFUL ENTRY WILL BE ORCHESTRATED FREE GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE GUARANTEED MINIMUM ROYALTY OF $5OO It will be staged by the Palmerston North Operatic Society Inc in August, 1971, as part of the city's centenary celebrations. If the season is successful, it is probable that production by others of the seventy members Societies of the Federation will follow, with consequent further royalty payments. This is a fascinating challenge in a field that has been left virtually untouched in New. Zealand. The country is rich in both natural and historical resources and the Federation confidently expects that some distinctive and vigorous writing for the musical theatre will emerge.
