States’ Affair
In Australia, where considerable criticism has been made of panic buying on the strength of unsubstantiated claims, the Federal Government is not likely to initiate tighter controls over the stock exchanges. The Attorney-General (Mr Tom Hughes) said today these matters were considered to be under State control, Reuter reports from Canberra. Legislation imposing stiff penalties for market manipulation is to be introduced by the Government of Victoria shortly.
