LESS PUNCH IN N.Z. SHAREMARKET AT END OF WEEK

RISES

FALLS

Leading issues were just firm in small movements on the New Zealand sharemarket yesterday, and an easing among mining and oil shares helped dampen the buoyant tone which the market has had during the week.

Trading was less hectic and there were almost as many falls as rises, although a few stocks continued to make good gains. Wallace notes moved up 6c to 66c, while the shares fell 2c, and Marlin, Bisley-Sea-brook, Prestige and McSkimrning were firm. Property Securities stood out among the falls with a 15c drop to 120 c, while the last day of its Broadcasting Authority hearing was marked by a 5c fall to 58c for Radio Hauraki’s shares. Wilsons Cement, the object of a joint take-over bid, lost 7c to 288 c, and Rothmans and Alex Harvey each lost sc. Waihi contributing shares moved up 3c to 115 c in the otherwise easy mining market. Consolidated Silver lost 2c to 78c (the rights 1c to 58c) and Southern Cross closed 10c down at 260 c.

Overseas oils, Beach and Bounty, were firm, but L and M Oil (N.Z.) eased to 239 c.
